    Default Dubl Duck Question

    Hey all,

    Quick question:
What year did the DublDuck Lifetime start production? Also, it was a 4/8th, right? How do they shave? Im assuming well, since the brand has a great reputation. Any die-hard enthusiasts?

I am not aware of 4/8 DD, although they might exist.
In general they are 5/8, but some members have posted pics of a 7/8, and I have seen a pic of a 8/8, but those are pretty rare I believe.

The guy that has his ducks in a row ... pun intended is thebigspendur. He knows quite a bit about them and you can see his collection in "those daffy ducks" in the razor clubs forum. IIRC the Bresnicks were first then the Bresducks and finally the Pearlducks. I have never seen a Pearlduck reaper so I figure the Lifetime (reaper not the shavette) were early in the history. Mine is a 5/8 and I think I've seen a 6/8 but really don't remember for sure.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

The first Lifetimes weren't DDs they were just Bresnicks. It took him awhile to decide on the DD logo so you'll see the early ones from the 1920s with no ducks on them or some with one duck. At first he sold alot of different branded razors before he sold razors with his name on them. The lifetimes were the best qualitywise. Much later when pearlson took over and it became pearlduck the Lifetimes were dropped in favor of the pearl...

    Weird...
I saw a dubl duck lifetime whose blade is just under 4.8ths. It is bresnick branded, so I suppose its very old which might mean that it is simply a severely worn down 5/8th. How possible is that for a razor that is at most 90 years old?

With the age being worn down from 5/8 to 4/8 is very likely. If any razor is honed a lot it will wear down quickly. They also ware quickly from improper honing. You will sometimes see newer razors that started life as a 6/8 and are well under 4/8 after a few years of improper honing.
