I was referring to the Fromm and the Flamingo, both advertised as made in Solingen.

The real Dovos on that site are over USD 100.

There's a Fromm, a 150 (looks like a Giessen Forsthof) and a few cheaper ones from Pakistan as the description next to them will tell ya.

I read somewhere on this site that there is a loophole whereby razors are manufactured in Pakistan and then assembled in Soligen so they can claim that as "Made In"

I may be wrong but I thought when the say made in Germany or Solingen they have to be made there as opposed to just saying Germany or Solingen on the product which means they can be made elsewhere but channeled through an office in Germany and invoiced and shipped from there.

    I'm not sure.

But I read it here somewhere.

Assembly can many times count as being "made in"

This is the argument being made in the North American auto industry right now. If a car has all of it's parts made in the US, but it's final assembly in Canada or Mexico, is it an America made car?

I believe this is the loophole.

If the bastids can find a way to bamboozle us they sure will, no doubt about that, OTOH, Solingen values it's name and reputation. Go to the page on the Revisor website and scroll down to "Regulation for the Protection of the Solingen Name" here .

There is no loophole. What you read is probably someone saying "I think there is a loophole" and you forgot the posts afterward saying "There is no loophole".

As the law quoted in JimmyHAD's link says, "Made in Solingen" MUST mean manufactured, not just assembled. If a razor is made in Pakistan and "assembled" in Soligen, any Solingen stamp is going to be breaking the law.

And how many counterfeiters that you know of are concerned with breaking a little law somewhere? Theoretically the law prevents stamping... ontologically, there is a sucker born every minute, and two to swindle him.
