I have a Joseph Rodgers and sons straight razor with The Lawrence No.4 writen on the blade. All I know is someone wrote their name and date on the case, in 1891. Any info. would be welcome, thanks.

Is the Joseph Rodgers name stamped into the tang of the razor? Sometimes folks assume that the name on the coffin (box) is the actual manufacturer of the razor inside, when in reality it's much more usual to find a razor/box mismatch. That being said, if it is a Rodgers it would be hard to pinpoint an exact date for your razor. They were in business from 1837 to 1948.

Very nice! Your photo is clear enough to see that the scales are definitely ivory, so be gentle with them. Is there a crack on the back scale? if not you are fortunate! There is no way to date that razor, except that with the hollow grind it is post 1850. Congratulations on acquiring a very high quality Sheffield razor.
