Thanked: 3brand unk to me
I bought a old straight razor and the brand stamp is not clear.
It looks like "IONN HARRER" its possible two or three letters are not correct. Its a old heavy wedge looks like a old wade butcher but its not.
has any one ever heard of that brand?any good?

To post pictures, post a reply and click 'Go Advanced', 'Manage attachments' and then upload your pic from wherever it is on your computer. It sounds like you may have a lovely razor.

Thanked: 39Oooohhhh, looks like a stub tail! Fascinating. I read in a thread here that the stub tails date the razor (I think) as quite an old razor. can't remember the thread or the author, but I'm sure he'll chime in......

John Barber made razors in Sheffield, England from 1820 to 1834 and then joined with is son as John Barber & Son between 1834 and 1852. So, you can get a rough idea of your razor date of manufacture if you can make out if the "Son" is stamped on the tang. It's a nice old one at any rate!

That's beautiful. If you're not sure how (and are interested in shaving with it) send it out for sharpening etc, I don't think you'll regret it.
