    Default TUF GLIDE/RUST PREVENTION

I have heard that Tuf Glide is great for rust prevention and is not oily or greasy. Does anyone know anything about the toxicity of the product (if any). Can it be used for razors?

I don't know anything about the toxicity, but based on the fumes, I wouldn't shave with this stuff on my razor. I would use it for long term storage. I've found if I keep water out of the pin area and dry my razors well, I don't have a problem with rust. If it's really humid, something like mineral oil should do just fine.

I use Tuf Glide on most of my razors. Apply, let dry and wipe off excess. No fumes after it dries. I don't know much about how toxic this stuff is but I've been using it for quite a while now and I'm still here to respond to your question. Don't drink it, pour it on open wounds or huff it and you should be fine.

I used to use it and found it didn't seem to do anything to prevent rust. I use sterol now and much prefer it.

Could you be specific which sterol oil you are using? I came up with Cholesterol, Phytosterol and Ergosterol. A search here was just plain sterol.
I'm confused. It a brand name?

    tavli,

Living in a cold, old Victorian house, keeping rust at bay is high on the agenda !

I have found TufGlide/TufCloth to be a most excellent product.

With the TufCloth a quick wipe is all you need, and it dries very quickly leaving a dry film, with no great odour. (The solvent smells like it is naptha/kerosene based.)

A quick wipe of the spine before stropping and you are good to go.

I have used this product on all my razors for over a year, and my razors are in perfect condition, and neither my face nor my strops have had any bad reaction. As with everything, YMMV.

    Give it a try

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

Its suppose to be non-toxic when dry.
I just started using TufGlide. The marine cloth is suppose to be even more protective but may/will slightly discolor the metal. I always use it when blade is cleaned or after restore. A quick honing will clean it off the bevel and spine.

While non-toxic I guess its better to have a clean bevel since that is only part of blade directly on face.
