Default PJ Michels Merit 5/8 Straight Razor

First off, I am very new at the whole straight razor thing. I've been waiting for awhile to start and finally delved in to see if it is for me. Anyway, I was browsing Ebay one day and saw this item (Item:160412961619) by mysterydoll. Aside from the issue of it being from mysterydoll, which seems to be a favorite topic of discussion, I saw the name PJ Michels and thought I'd put a small bid of $20 max and investigate. I won with the only bid, however. On further investigation, I could not find anything on Merit blades from Michels. The popular one by Michels is the C-Mon, of course, which I did not remember at the time of bidding. Does anyone know anything about the Merit straight razors by PJ Michels?

Thanks for any information as this will help determine how much money to sink into this for honing, etc..., or if I should make use of 7 day return policy.

    Welcome to SRP.
Peter J.Michels was in business 1914 - 1955. The trademark "Merit" was used by him since 1922. In 1915 his company was at 7 Foxall Street, New York City. By 1923, they had moved to 1853-1859 Catalpa Avenue, and in the 1950's they were in Brooklyn, N.Y.
So, the razor was made in 1950's.
According the pictures on ebay, it will be not difficult to restore this razor and make it shaver ready.

Has a bit of hone wear but looks nice overall.Should make a good shaver after a little TLC.
