The Favorite Razor.
One of the posters in another thread said he had a favorite razor and I'm sure everyone has their favorite. (except me of course I love them all or almost all).
So the question is if I took your favorite razor in the whole wide world and disguised it and mixed it with 20 other razors that looked and weighed exactly the same would you be able to pick out your favorite by shaving?
I don't think you would. I think many things go into "the favorite" some unconscious.

I probably couldn't but, if I say I can, will you get me 20 identical razors so I can try? That would be heaven. Or else really boring and it would no longer be my favorite razor...

Thanked: 1371I currently have one razor that shaves better than all the others.
It's not my favorite, but I'm certain I could tell you the difference when I shave my head.
But... Maybe I need more razors that are honed by people that really know what they're doing... I have a couple of self-honed that come close to that one, and a couple honed by honemeisters that come close... But that particular razor just works better for me.
It is possible that if I sent all my razors out for honing, I might end up with others that shave just as well.

by shaving I wouldn't, provided that at least one more of the other 19 is among my favorites.

Thanked: 1903Define "shaving". I would have to hold it in my hand, and that would give this particular one away, because the scales and weight are easily distinguishable. As for results, no, I absolutely couldn't. I have got equally good shaves from 5/8 wedges to 8/8 full hollows. Or, put more bluntly, I do not believe in all the "razor X shaves better than anything else" thing, which is why I refuse to accept that there is something like "the best razor" (except, of course, The Chronic).
Regards,
Robin

Funny part of it is that the first razor that came to my mind is one I've never shaved with. If the fellow I bought it from was being honest , and I believe he was, he never shaved with it either and he bought it new. Anyhow, I couldn't possibly pick a favorite so I'm out of the game. OTOH, if I could pick one to play I wouldn't recognize it just by shaving.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 81I don't think I could. Most of what makes my favorite a favorite is who bought it, when it was bought along with other aspects of its history. Shaving is only part of the decision to make a razor my favorite.
