    Default Razor ID Help?

I recently scored a C.W. Hackett Hardware Company razor as a restoration experiment/training tool beater. The scales are kind of a faux bamboo and the razor itself has kind of a fake frameback design. The words "Elliot Special" are etched on the blade.

I've looked all over for information on this company in an attempt to try and figure out how old this razor is. Any ideas?

No idea on the age, but the bamboo scales are aftermarket replacements. I've seen a lot of them on all different brands of razors.

Razors were often branded with hardware store names much like you might see carpenter's pencils or refrigerator magnets are today.

While the bamboo motif scales may have been sold as after market I have seen a few old ads by well known makers selling new razors with these bamboo motif scales.

    J. Elliot and Wm. Elliot were not connected to this razor.
C.W. Hackett Hardware Company, 1889 - 1902, was founded in 1858 in St.Paul, Minnesota, as the C.D.Strong Hardware Company. In 1885, they became the Strong, Hackett Hardware Company. In 1889 - C.W. Hackett Hardware Company. In 1902, after two new members came into the firm, became - Hackett Walther Gates Hardware Company. The firm again changed names in 1912 to Hackett, Gates & Hurty.

Can't seem to post pics (post count too low maybe?) but anyway, looks like the correct answer is that my new friend is somewhere between 121 and 108 years old.

It'll take plenty to get this one cleaned up but I think once it is, it will be a really cool razor. Hopefully by the time I finish it, I'll have enough posts to put up some before and after pictures.

After they are in a file on your PC go to the text box in the thread and scroll down below it and you will see a menu that says 'manage attachments'. Click on it and a menu will pop up that has a browse tab. Click on the top tab and it will open your files where you can select the one in which you've stored your photos.

Once you've selected a photo click 'open' at the bottom right. If you want more than one photo you have to repeat the procedure clicking on the next 'browse' tab down. Once you have the photos you want scroll to the right and you will see "upload". Click on that and wait until it is done and then post.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
