Thanked: 0Jacoby & Wester razors?
Hello Gents. I picked up a razor today that I cannot find any information on and I'm hoping you all can help.
I found information abut Wester brothers razors. Apparently the company was originally Jacoby & Wester, but I can't find any info about their razors.
This razor says extra hollow ground on the blade, Jacoby & Wester Made in Germany on side of the handle and No 20 on the other side. The box does feature the anchor symbol. Sorry, no pics yet until camera cable gets here.
Anyone know dates, quality, value? Solid find worth keeping or something I should just PIF to help someone get started with straights?
Thanks guys.

I don't know about the Jacoby end of it but I've got some Wester Bros razors and they are good ones. Welcome to SPP. After you post a pic of the razor with the blade open we can tell you if it is worth honing up. As far as value, it is against SRP policy to appraise value. Check ebay completed listings to get an idea.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 0The first two google hits I see are now my posts here and at B&B. I went through several pages of google and only found info on Wester Bros, which leads me to believe after the company was renamed the blades were marked Wester Bros? But both my blade and box say Jacoby & Wester. I found the info in the wiki here about the company originally being Jacoby & Wester. Hopefully I'll be able to get some pics up soon.
Sorry about the value question, I didn't read the rules very thoroughly. I'll have to go back and reread them tomorrow. I just keep hoping on here for 30 seconds as I can. My wife has me cleaning like a slave in preparation for her parents visit tonight.

No worries about the value question. I've seen Wester bros stamped Wester & Butz too. Some of these companies merged and then split. Wester had a long run. I have one marked Wester Stone Co.

WIKI
Wester & Butz of Solingen (1832 - 1966), Jacoby & Wester (1891 - 1904), Wester Bros. (1904 - 1967) are the same company.
The owner of Wester & Butz was August Wester. Jacoby & Wester was founded by his sons, Charles and Max Wester, and a man with the last name of Jacoby. About 1904, the Wester brothers bought Jacoby out, and changed the name to Wester Brothers.
Jacoby & Wester and Wester Bros imported goods manufactured by Wester & Butz, Solingen.Alex Ts.

Thanked: 0You guys are awesome. I understand now why this forum was recommended to me.
So based upon that information I can assume that my razor was sold between 1891 and 1904, right?
Anyone have any idea as to the quality of my razor? Something I should hold onto? I'm thinking so based upon the vintage and the fact it was forged in Solingen.
Thanks again. I appreciate it.

As I said before, the Wester Bros razors I have are all good shavers. Quality blades. If yours is in very good condition I would recommend keeping it. They are not one of the 'hot' razors such as the dubl duck or Puma which bring high $ on ebay but if you want a good razor to shave your face with they deliver the goods.

You should get it honed and use it for a bit, then decide whether to hold onto it or not. It's up to you to decide based on how much you like that razor.
For example I sold the one in the picture above, but not because I didn't like how it shaves. In fact it's one of the very few razors I've had with excellent square point and in this condition I would normally keep it. But the imitation palm scales with bolsters just aren't my thing.
