Older blades/Heavies
Now that I have been behaving myself and not jumping on every blade available (well almost) I have really had the time to test and get interested in blade styles. Last year I was at a point where I was able to feel the difference in my edges and the difference in steels used in these blades.
Now I'm able to group these issues in ways that have dictated my interest in an era, kind of Lol. Ya I'm having a hard time getting this out of my head at the moment... it made sence on the drive home... While I love the feel of sharpening US made blades (tends to be hard steel) I'm not so crazy with the grinds as I once was, I find them to light in the hand. Lets just say that I have trouble with anything under a 5/8...
Unfortunatly this leads me to the old Meat Chopper sizes as my favored shavers... But it also means I now have to compete with the collectors directly on ebite... and ya I loose every time sux being a low bidder haha Oh well.
I seem to be looking for and notice most of my interests point to the early 1800's in size and style. I don't have a date just yet as I have to get that book from the library again lol. It seems that after the late 1800's the blade style was pretty much fixed in it's current form. As where the mid to early part of 1800 sure had alot of styles to play with.
I guess having big hands and a backwards tech mentality limits ones options alot, but thats good for me as I save $$ that way HAHA.
Anyway Is there anyone else out there with a simular afliction???

If by similar you mean "Love the big, fat wedges" then no. If you mean "Found what I love" then yes.
For me it's got to be a 5/8, 1/4 Hollow or wedge, Oblique point. Love'em, love 'em, love 'em.
That doesn't mean I don't own and use others. One of my favorites is a 133 Red Imp Wedge.
I've run across one W&B meatchopped wedge without scales that I restored, had honed and have used. Too HEAVY. Too W I D E.
But that's just me.

I've got a 7/8 W&B wedge that I love. I must admit I do prefer the bigger blades, I just like the way they handle. And after that W&B or my 15/16 Wacker, a little 4/8 hollow ground feels very small..!

Thanked: 48well yes i love the way a big wedge blade glides down my cheeks and neck. my chin is a differnt story thou. i can get it done but its a challange.all in all the 6/8ths 1/4 hollows are the easyest shavers for me, just seem to everything just right, two passes and there no room for improvement.point shapes dont make much difference to me other than having to be carefull around the ear with a spike

I like the big wedges once in awhile but I like a 6/8 W&B wedge better than an 8/8. My favorite size is a 5/8 but I don't have a problem handling the largest blades. Where I do have a problem is with thin tangs with no jimps. They are hard for me to keep stable and want to turn in my fingertips.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

To think I wanted a 7 day set of DD Dwarf's haha, I still have my Dwarf but not to shave with, my fingers go numb trying to hold it properly
Seems I'm not the only one out there

I'm with Jimmy on thin tangs. I can't stand them. This is why I've yet to find a frameback I really like.
For a daily shaver, I like 6/8 or 13/16 half hollow, but I enjoy shaving with a variety of blades because I like the way they feel different. That said, I have a soft spot for massive razors.

My pipe quarter hollow has a great feel, even though it's at the lower end of my size likes. It's just a fantastic shaver
