Beginner's Blade?
I am interested in buying a nice razor with quality steel from a reputable manufacturer that will last me the rest of my life. Could anyone refer me to what you think would be a "best value for the money" razor? I really don't need fancy handles or too much decoration. Simple, but the best quality blade is what I'm after!

No such thing since value is subjective. I value some blades much less than what most people do, and some much more.
Anything that doesn't have atrocious hone wear can last the rest of your life if you don't abuse it.

The first blade may not be the one you want after you really learn all you need to learn. Plus you have to factor in the higher risk of damage in the learning process. Check out the classifieds for a reasonably priced blade listed as Shave Ready that you like the looks of. Start learning what you need to with it and as you become familier with its use and care you can look for the blade you want to spend the rest of your life with
That may change as time goes as well lol... In the past 4 years I have gone through 4 different styles

Thanked: 1903The FAQ entries for obtaining your first equipment and razor in particular should get you started: Frequently Asked Questions - Straight Razor Place Wiki. Beyond that, it really is entirely down to personal preference.

Welcome to SRP!
You've received some good, sound advice. Now do your homework and study up on the info in the frequently asked questions. After that you'll be better equipped to make a decision.
I paid $23.00 for my first razor. I bought it here in the Classifieds. It was shave ready and gives me a good shave. It isn't pretty and I don't know its age, but it's probably close to 100 years old. With proper care and honing, it can be shaving someone else's face 100 years from now.
Namaste,

Beginner's Blade?
Hello, Lumberjoe:
Welcome to Straight Razor Place.
First read the information here Frequently Asked Questions - Straight Razor Place Wiki. Then look at the razors offered by vendors mentioned at SRP. Also look in the Classified. You have plenty of choices.
My first razor was a simple Dovo 5/8" round point. It was a great little razor. That may work for you as well. Either way, research will be your best friend. Good luck.
Regards,
Obie

I've just started with straight razor 2 weeks ago, for the blade at first I didn't really have idea and have question just like you, now after I have my first blade, I have my own preference.
my first blade is Genco (forgot the series) bought it here from the classified for $45, it's 5/8 with spike point, after I receive it and use it 3x now I'm thinking that I might want more round point for my blade, the size is good, since I have a small hand, the spike point...I think it's good for detail work, it's kinda creepy looking at that angle but it's ok when I use it, but I still want other than spike point see the what I mean? just choose your blade from the classified here, something in your budget and you like it, upon receiving and using, you'll build your own preferences, you won't go wrong there, ask anything you want from the seller (this is what I like from this community)
