    Default Lindsay's Choice

Gentlemen, I wonder if any of you well informed folk could tell me anything at all about this newly acquired spike? It's 6/8, very hollow (about a 12 on the Henckels scale) and the stamp reads "Lindsay Mfg. Co. Pittsburgh Pennsylvania". The blade etch which isn't very evident in the photo says "Lindsay's Choice". I suspect that it's US made rather than an import, for no particular reason, but I have no idea about a date. Searching here and elsewhere has drawn a blank. Not especially pretty to be sure, but it shaves very sweetly.

Hello Arrowhead - fancy seeing you here!

Goins Encyclopaedia has two entries: Lindsay Manufacturing of Pittsburgh PA, c 1886 - 1926 and J Lindsay Hdw, Co. of Pittsburgh PA and once again c 1886 - 1926, so I suspect they are two branches of the same company. It seems that they were located at Liberty Avenue and Ellesmere St in PA.

    Regards,
    Neil

Ha ha - nice to hear from you Neil. I'm in your debt for that info - once again!
