    Default Interesting item.. Any ideas?

Was given this today by my mum. She bought it off a market stall as she thought it may be of interest to me as it may be some sort of razor.

Any ideas what it may be (I think it could be a hair trimmer of sorts). It appears to take half a razor blade so maybe it could be the forerunner of the shavette or feather in a Japanese stylee?

    Comments please...

Looks like this may have been a blade holder used to sharpen some of the early DE razors.

Interesting, though mine really doesn't have any hone marks on it but it may just be unused?

Going to have to try and search for more info.

It looks like a holder for replaceable/throw away blades. I think an old work colleague would have named it correctly though. If he didn't understand what something was or exactly how it worked he called it a "s^%tbird". I think this is an official "s$%t bird".

Hmm, it does indeed appear to be a blade holder (having found the same link as CarrieM's)

It is a nice looking object though and it does have a shaving conection, even though I doubt I'll use it for anything now. Something else to polish - ho hum....

I think you'll find that it is a device used to strop single and double edged safety razor blades so that they could be used multiple times.

That makes sense. Think I'll try a blade in it to see how much is showing.

Just tried a DE razor blade in it from my PAL. The blade doesn't protrude from the bottom edge at all, leaving about 1/4" showing at the top (which will be the edge to be stropped). Will take a pic in a mo for folks to see.

    OK, have taken some pics..

..as you can see in one of the pics a handle from a 3 piece razor can be interchanged for the handle on the 'Everkeen'.
