    Default Spots on metal

I have been getting faint dark spots on my carbon steel straight razor. (looks like rust) I have rinsed completely with hot water than dried and than sprayed WD-40 on it. This has failed me...steps to correct problem?

    HI,

After rinsing under hot water, drying then stropping, I leave the razor open in a dry place for about an hour before applying preservative.

Might work for you too ?

    Have fun !

    Best regards

Use Maas metal polish to remove the spots. For future prevention care, rinse with hot water. Make sure the hot water heats up the metal, then dry with toilet tissue paper(i find this works the best for wiping a blade dry) make sure not to touch the edge of the razor,it can dull the razor. Follow this with leaving the razor fully open in a dry area to fully dry out. Then as the member mentioned before me,you can apply oil,i use mineral oil to prevent future spots from appearing.

+1 on what Jsteele said...I get that almost every few time I shave. It sometimes depends on the hardness and water quality. Use Maas All Metal Polish (comes in a tube)...it works wonders...I do it every week. Careful around the edge. I usually polish the blade, then strop it on linen a few laps. If it's the only razor in your rotation, then "mineral oiling" it may become a nuisance everyday.

    Cheers,
    -Robert
