Thread: Kinfolks Real Blue Point??

Hello everyone this is my first post on the boards. I have loved the idea of a straight razor shave since I was a kid. Being a bit of a knife collector I inherit all the blades of the men in our family. I recently thought of a straight razors again and dug out my grandfathers old blade. Started googling to find out what it was and found nothing. The handle is yellow and feels like a plastic. It says "Real Blue Point Razor" around a blue dot. Same way the red point razors look only blue. The tang says "Kinfolks Incorporated." Its not in very good shape, I can't image its been used for at least 40 years. I don.t remember my grandfather using it and my dad said he only had faint memories. The blade does have rust on it and the pins are a bit green.
Can anyone on here tell me anything about it? Where i might find info on it? What its worth (not that I would ever sell it)?

Kinfolks is one of the NY companies related to Case and Catauragus

George Korn is also in there someplace with all those razors... I don't know all the ties..

The Blue Point if it can be brought into line is a top notch shaver all the Kinfolks are...

I own my Great Great Grandfather's 1850's Wade &Butcher (pictured in my Avatar) You are a fortunate Grandson.

SRP's policy is not to provide price information on razors, etc. However, if you can post a photo or two or three of the razor, perhaps a more experienced member than I will be able to identify it and assess it for its restorability.

I apologize for asking the value. As with all my family blades, it will never be for sale. The same grandfather left me his case daily carry pocket knife. Though I know little about it i have been offered more than $200 for it and laughed at the offer. Now I need to learn to post pics. Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome to SRP. You ought to get that razor up to speed and put it back in service for yourself. As Glen said, Kinfolks was part of the Case family somewhere along the line. I have a Blue Point and it is a great shaver. I would love to see a pic of your granddad's Case knife too. I collect those also.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but on a full hollow such as that it may be too far gone. Than again, maybe not. Sending it to someone like gssixgun to run it through the tumbler you might get lucky. Never saw those scales before. They are nice if they are not doing the cell rot thing.

Ya never know till ya start, here is an easy start, take a DE or SE razor blade and carefully shave off the active rust and see what is under there...

Seeing no harm in knocking the rust off. I spent 2min with 220grit under running water and this is the result. The only pitting is on the side that had the larger single rust spot. Sanding the tang uncovered the words "Real Blue Point, Made by Soliger (?)GermanyExperts,
