    Default A new ebay find

    Hi,
I got this one off ebay:
STRAIGHT SHAVING RAZOR Russian "Stiz" 1955 USSR - eBay (item 280507363254 end time May-22-10 06:07:31 PDT)

Seller told me that it would not require honing. What do you think?

    Thanks.

    Unhappy

The scales are cracked or broken so it might need new ones and honed

It is impossible to tell from a photo whether a razor is shave ready (though for obvious cases you would be able to say a razor is not shave ready). You may be able to get away with using her as is, but I would suggest new scales as well.

I suppose glue is an option, if you don't mind having the glue. I would ask around a bit about which type of glue would be best sutied first, though. I don't know myself, but it should depend on the scale material as well as the types of forces that will be applied to the joint (mostly sheer?).

I looked at all of the other razors that the seller was offering on Ebay and all of them have very narrow blades. In my opinion they look like they have had damaged edges and they were " breadknifed " to repair them.

I haven't actually looked, but is there any evidence to support that claim? Maybe the were just all small razors to start with.

Given the wavy edges on many of the blades, I think it is very unlikely that they were breadknifed, but who knows.
