    Hmmm.... that very first picture is a frameback...

    That certainly pushes the dates for frames and hollows back a bit!

    The woodcuts are all German or Swiss. The replicas are all based off of English designs.

    It is possible that the frame-back look is just done to show a hollow-ish grind. Realism wasn't a key factor in the imagery of that period. It sure does look like one though

    I really like the looks of the razor in white scales with the straight monkey tail simple but beautiful.

    Thank you for these pics. No flipping of the tang when stropping with those razors. Very nice.

    Granted, time is not kind to steel and horn, but I've always found it a bit odd that it seems in large part the oldest razors we normally see actual examples of don't appear (loosely) prior to say 1830-40?

    That would be even more striking, as it pushes hollow-ground blades back about 400 years!
