    Default Sir Isaac Newton

I've just been lent a "The Sir Isaac Newton Razor" to have a play with but would like to find out more about it. Either links or personal knowledge / experience would be good

It's not in great condition, it's become tarnished and has been very aggressively sharpened in the past and I think the end has been re profiled, but I'd quite like to restore it if it's going to end up being a good shaver.

It would be very helpful if you included more information (ie manufacturer's name, country of origin, etc.) anything stamped on the tang. Also a picture is worth a thousand words, so if you could include four or five thousand words worth of photography that would be nice too.

    Regards - Walt

If its anything like mine it has am image of Isaac newton engraved on blade and tang along with his name and dates. The front scale is also impressed with "The Sir Isaac Newton Razor" and the tang has "Made in Germany" on the back.

It was made by Friedrich Ern & Co, Solingen, Germany - a good shaver.

    Regards,
    Neil

That Isaac Newton razor sounds suspiciously like my Gottfried von Leibniz razor (quite ironically, made in Sheffield). I bet the differences are quite infinitesimal and, in the limit, the two would be difficult to differentiate.

I found my razor integrated nicely into my shaving routine. I am sure yours will too.

+1 yes asymptoticly approaching the correct honing angle.
in both cases but from opposite sides of the H-A-D slope. But
that is tangential to the real part of the solution which
always gets me in a lather.

The differences are indeed incalculable, however both provide similar results.

The Sir Isaac Newton razor was made by C. Friedrich Ern of Solingern-Weyer. They were at 196 Weyerstrasse in 1939. They used quite a few trade names, including Kobold and Sprock.
