    I tried to save the gold wash on my king cutter and it was pointless. What I did was followed advice on this forum and masked off the wash with electrical tape, then buffed all around it. In the end I buffed the whole thing because when I took the mask off what was left was just a shabby looking tarnished gold wash on top of a nice shiny blade. IMO you can't get it back.

    You might try a cleaner instead if polish. Something like Spray 9 or a stainless steel spray cleaner might remove tarnish and be alot more gentle on the goldwash.
