Default Help me choose-Dovo vs Boker

Considering the following razors, Dovo Best Quality 5/8 or 3/4, Dovo Tortoise 5/8 or 3/4, Dovo Ebony Silver Steel 5/8, or Boker Edelweiss 5/8 bone. All are round points so that is a requirement for me. Yes the scales are different, but scales don't do the cutting. So let's talk steel. Which do you consider to have the best steel? Smoothest cutting? Balance?

Plan to buy before the 15th. Give me your best experiences.

    Thanks.

Most any razor, properly honed and taken care of, will give you a good shave and last you a lifetime.

But Man, that Boker sure is beautiful! That's how I'd make my choice.

idk if this is your first razor or if you already own a few. But the Dovo Best quality was my first razor. And its a great shaver for a great price. But if your price will allow it i might go for that Edelweiss (its the next razor i plan to purchase)

Something that may help is checking in the reviews to see what others have thought of each one. Here is a link.

    Thumbs up BOKER

I think the Boker blade has a more solid feel to it. I am presuming that the Dovos are full hollow ground. I have two Bokers and I am keeping them.................

A lot depends on who does the honing. I've bought several razors from Lynn and Don, and I recommend them. They are both Dovo and Böker dealers.

haveing way too many razors myself both new and vintage i have come to the conclusion that razors tend to be razors. pick the one you like the best. the difference in say a sheffield and a solingen razor is slight when it comes to honing and nil when it comes to shaving imo.

I've got a couple of DOVO's (the Black Star and the Bismarck), and I have the Edelweisse you're looking at as well. The Boker's blade does feel slightly stiffer than the Black Star in particular, but other than that they are pretty much all the same to shave with in terms of the closeness of the shave and the smoothness of the blade.

All are excellent shavers as long as they are honed correctly (like most razors in fact lol..!), and will give you many years service if you look after them.

Between the ones you mention, they're all good, so pick the one you like the look of.

My personal choice from the razors you have listed would be the Edelweisse, but thats purely because I like the look of it more than the others..!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Lynn and Don are the owners of Straight Razor Designs.

I just bought some stuff from Straight Razor Designs and am very happy with there service. And there prices are very competitive.

But who ever you buy from be sure It's shave ready since your buying a new razor you might as well get one that has been professionally honed buy hand not machine.

    Default Dovo vs Boker

    Hello, Woodturner:

All are fine razors; therefore, taste and price are the main considerations.

I have the Edelweiss, and I have had the two in the past. If I were to choose, provided I had the money, I would opt for the Boker. Not only is it an attractive razor; it's also a good shaver, in my case thanks to Lynn's honing.

    Regards,
    Obie
