Thanked: 0Wade & Butcher Question
Just recently got through family pass ons a Wade and Butcher straight razor with the original box for it but it has the president Grover Cleavland on it. I've looked all over the internet and can't find anything on this model or any information on it's value or anything like that. It's still in amazing condition. Could anyone shed some light on when these blades came out or just any information on them at all would be wonderful. Thanks for the help guys =]

welcome to srp
i'd speculate that it was made when the president was alive or as a commemoration after he died, but not before he became famous.
as far as value goes, we're not a place for appraisals, you should consult with the appropriate entity, or just throw in on ebay and find out what the free market values it at.

Welcome to SRP. That is a nice heirloom you've got there. Probably made around the time Cleveland was president as Gugi says. We would love to see a photo of it if you could manage it. We love looking at razors, especially nice oldies such as that.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I'm willing to bet that the razor came out on one of the following years.
1885: First year of first term as president
1893: First year of second term as president
1908: Year of death
With a pic, we might be able to lock down at least one maybe even two of those dates.

Thanked: 19According to the collected wisdom around here, if it does not have the country of origin embossed on the shank, it pre-dates 1891 as per the Treaty of Madrid.
Grover Cleveland Presidency: (1885–1889 and 1893–1897). The plot thickens....

I don't know how to link it on here better so here are the direct links to the pictures on photobucket.
The camera isn't the best. But hopefully you can see where he is on the blade. If you need any details on what anything says i'd be glad to let you know.

Thanked: 0Hello, I've got the same style Wade Butcher razor as your Grover Cleveland one, but mine has Sir John A. MacDonald, Canada's first Prime Minister on the blade. I've only come across one other one like it besides yours and that was from a man in Ontario who has the same style commemorative Wade Butcher razor featuring Lord Stanley, the first Governor General of Canada and the person who the NHL's Stanley Cup is named after. Based on the dating of the Wade Butcher logo on the tangs these razors were made prior to 1891. Lord Stanley was made Governor General by Queen Victoria in 1888, so these razors must have been made between 1888-1891. If anyone else knows anything else about these razors please let us know? Thanks.
