Need your help
Howdy all,
As the title says, I need your help and I know you all can do it.
I recently just got engaged and this got me thinking about a few things. One of these things was about my wedding day shave.
Now hopefully I'm only ever gonna get married once and it's supposed to be a big special day. So why would I shave with just any old razor I have?
I wanted your guys help to find this special razor for me.
I am looking for a6/8 razor(singing is full hollow right?) with either bone or ivory scales. Now I heard thiers issard does customs would anyone know where I could possible find out more about this?
I don't know for sure if I want a TI but since they do customes it might be easier. If nit a TI what else would you guys recommend?
Thanks for reading this and hopefully we can figure something out together

TI makes a whole bunch of razors, but I was disappointed that their extra hollow grind is now very stiff, so you should consult with a vendor to make sure it is indeed the singing (if they make it all).
ivory may be problematic for canada since they're in france, but there was a guy in italy who bought an ivory set from a vendor in england.
or if you can forgo the singing you can splurge for the carved ivory pair of rodgerses on ebay now that's something!
your vintage options are somewhat limited by the fact that when full hollow grind became popular, the ivory on razors became rarer. plus an old razor may not be your cup of tea, even if it looks like new.

Just out of curiosity are you planning to use this razor for the first time on your wedding day? And were you planning on using it again? And if you are planning on only utilizing this blade on your wedding day do you think she would let you put it in the wedding album?

Personally, I would be leary of a custom for a special occasion. I've been disappointed with my new razors as opposed to my vintage blades so the idea of spending a lot on a blade that might not deliver makes me reluctant. I would be more likely to see if I could find something in the classifieds.

Seeing that you are in Canada you have to take into consideration that there is a ban on importing ivory items across borders in most, if not all, countries. Mammoth ivory is not affected by this ban nor is "pre ban" ivory but the latter is scarce from what I've heard.
You could go to Rasage Poulin's website here and check out his stock. Give Scott a call and see what your options are. I highly recommend the limited edition Silverwing with the ram's horn scales and "French nose." I have one and it is a beautiful razor and shaves wonderfully.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Nice thread, Basil. Personally, I agree with the others in that it takes a few times to become familiar with a blade and be able to get the best shave from it.
If I were you I'd use it for a week or so first, then put it away for a while, then bring it out on the big day with full confidence.
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

Like most of you said I would probbaly use it the week before the wedding just to get used to the blade.
As for being in the wedding album I'm pretty sure it would be. I mean there is always a picture of the best man shaving the groom but I'd just tell him to do my cheeks and I'll do the rest lol.
It kinda sucks that ivory can't really be imported into Canada, what arw the differences between the ones you said were allowed an not allowed?
I guess I could go for bone then, but don't know if it would be as nice?
