I bought a 1/4 Le Grelot from rasurpur and it is perfect. He delivers them truly shave ready and his service is terrific.

I bought the grelot with bone scales.

Thought I'd get something nice and classy

Only question is how do I properly take care of the bone? Is there anything different I should be doing with the scales after a shave?

    Hello, Basil:

Congratulations. You will be happy with the razor. Take care of it and it will give you good service and last a long time.

Keep the razor dry. This is important. That includes the blade, the shank, the scales and the pivot area. When oiling the blade after use, make sure you don't get oil on the bone scales.

    Regards,
    Obie

If I were to get oil on the bone what would happen?

Also thanks for the Link to your razor. I saw that shoulderless one but I like my stabilizers so opted skip it.

Also the prices are top notch. Even with the exchange and shipping it works to a great deal!

    Hello, Basil:

From my experience, oil seeps into the porous bone and stains it.

The way I look it for the daily shave is this: A clean and dry cloth is the only thing that belongs on the scales.

    Regards,
    Obie

    If I may Gents:

A good quality wax, once or twice per year will keep most any Natural scales in great shape for many years... Personally I recommend "Renaissance Wax" but there are many other high quality preservation waxes out there that will work just fine...

I know this will sound Luke quite the newbie question but what is this Renaissance wax?

I've heard a few mentions of it in the forums but what is it exactly?

    Hi Basil,

Well, you pulled the trigger before I could finish typing, but I think you will be very happy with your new razor.

I used mine just yesterday morning and the shave was great. I won't go as far to say the razor is legendary, but it's a nice one.

You already have seen the accolades given to Martin so far in this thread, and I just say I agree!

For your bone scales, nothing too special, just make sure they're dry when you're done, as with other scales, so you won't leave any moisture on or near your blade between shaves. Others may chime in with more helpful info.

    Enjoy!
