Whats this???
Just picked-up this little honey here off da bay. (see attachments) Its GENCO 2.5" Got it for shape-ups. Anyway what is the pourpose of the the large cutout on the tang? And more importantly what the heck is there a hole drilled im the spine for??? I've never seen this before. I was assuming it it merely to lighten the weight, but not sure. thanks.

Thanked: 530If I'm not mistaken, that was a safety straight, or somethign to that extent... The block cutout would have a metal wire (about the size of a chain-link fence) that extended down from it.. Then a folded "C"-shaped metal sheet covered the blade, all the way to the toe. It ended by coming up the point and the wire went into that hole up front... I've only seen one once, so that isn't the best description... Let me look for pictures

Your razor is probably a derivation of this Genco Safedge safety razor. A nipple on the end of the safety guard fit into the hole in the end of your tang and a spring clip fit over the slot by the heel to allow the guard to be reversed to either side of the blade.

Thanked: 1936Thanks, I just learned something. My initial though was that someone had gotten "creative" with a dremel or something...too cool though!
