Please can you help me? I am trying to find and put together any available information about Hamburg Ring. It looks like they were made in few locations around the Europe. Why they were called Hamburg Ring? Were there only specific locations like Solingen, Hamburg ... where they were made? By who or which companies? And so on. All help especialy refferenced is appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you. I have searched through SRP already and I have seen the link before I have posted mine. However there is not much reliable information apart from good pictures of razors which were stamped with makers stamps Sheffield, Valencia, Solingen. But it could be me not noticing the information given. Common guys dont be scared to share your info.

    From that thread:

Therefore many razors is etched "Hamburg Ground" and "Hamburg Ring".

And that is what does not make sense to me. If there are blades visibly stamped ground in Solingen, Sheffield or Valencia. This controversy sparked my interest in it.

I've never seen another "ring". Only "Hamburg Ring".

I think we are misunderstanding to each other. I have seen blades with Hamburg Ring etched/engraved on the blade and in the same time (on the same blade) with stamp of manufacturer in Sheffield, Solingen and Valencia. From this I would say theory about Hamburg makers does not add up. About the time where they were made they are commonly quite modern 1900-1950 (full hollows and golden etching). These are thing which bugs me about it.

All I know is that I have a Gotta 120 Hamburg Ring extra hollow in 6/8s and it's my favorite razor. They hone up easier than any other razor I've used and then bend to the face extremely well, I love mine!

I'm not sure that there is a satisfactory answer - its another of those questions which we can only conjecture about - seem to have had a lot of those lately!

There are other 'rings' for example:

as well as "the genuine ring," "silver ring" (from at least two different makers) and a few others that I cannot recall at the moment.

I don't really hold with the 'ring of factories in Hamburg' theory. Its maybe ring as in the musicality of the blade - if you were inclinged to twang it! Simply added to the place of grinding.
