    Default History

Looking for any and all history for this blade. A coworker of mine's great grandfather used this blade and has been in his family since that time. He recently found out that I'm into straight razors and wanted to know if i could come up with any information about the blade. Since I know almost nothing about all the kinds of razors and their histories I figured I would post it here to see if anyone of you gents knew anything about it.

He did ask me if it would be worth having restored. Looking at the blade there is some crazy pitting on the back side of the razor. The edge itself is still in great shape. Though it does look like there are some tiny chips in the blade. I think some honing would take care of that real easily. The pin holding the razor is loose because it tends to fall open.

Have a look see and tell me what you guys think. I'll pass the info along to him.

    Thanks much
    _Will

    My congratulations.
    Nice and old Sheffield razor.
The razor was made by George Johnson (1810 - 1855).
Located at 4 Porter St., Sheffield.
    I have similar razor.

I'd be surprised if your buddy's razor could be restored to its original state, but it sure looks worth cleaning up and shaving with

    That's a fantastic heirloom!

Big wedges like that can give a fun smooth shave and you can feel the history. You might just spend some serious hours with varying grits of sandpaper and elbow grease on the blade, and when you are content send it out for some nice scales.
