    Default Green Lizard

Hi. I was wondering if anyone knew if the Cattaraugus Green Lizard razors where ever manufactured with standard black scales, instead of the famous green scales we usually see them with. I recently won a nice Green Lizard off ebay but it has black scales. It does seem like one of the older models. Does have the lizard stamped on the blade. Wondering if it is a rescaling job or if they could be original scales.

    Thanks!

I've owned several of them, and all have had the lizard on either the blade, or on the scales... but not both blade and scales. However; in all cases, the scales were green (see below). I would tend to believe that yours has been rescaled.

Lizard on blade, but not on scales

Lizard on scales, but not on blade
You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Yea that blade and tang/tang design and stamp looks like the blade I have. Must have been rescaled.

    Thanks!

The green scales and lizzard were their trademark.

Couple years ago I started looking for a pair of these razors for a gift set... All I see are the $$ going up... bugger...

I've seen many in the past few months with stamps on both, I saw that one in black but wanted greens

Thats kinda the same with all the razors and rare hones at the moment DC..! Prices keep going up, very annoying!

Thats a nice razor though, I've not seen one before. Hows the shave?

Thanks to everyone who responded! And just a note as a followup.....I went home last night and took another look at my Green Lizard and though hhhmmmm.....I held it up to the light and sure enough, the scales are a translucent green! They are a very dark translucent green, so dark green they almost look black. Add onto this the fact that they were very dirty inside. I ended up cleaning them inside and it helped a little but they are still so dark that they look almost black. Is there anything that could be done to lighten them up? Anyone know?

    Thanks!

Sometimes if you polish them really good both inside and out with a cape cod cloth or a dremmel with a muslin buff and some yellow rouge and you are very very careful you can get through the warn outside layers. Of course with celluloid sometimes it gets that way through and through.
