Current British Straight Razors???
Posted this over at Badger& Blade and there wasn't any feedback so i figured some one here might know. I got a nice but basic current German and French straight razor (Dovo Best Quality and Thiers Issard Dandy) and wanted to know if any British companies are currently producing straight razors???

None left, I'm afraid. You'll have to go vintage. Or American.

Good question...
I'm not very much in the know on that but I reckon that all the old British razor manufacturers (in Sheffield, for example) have gone bust a long time ago and, unlike Dovo or Wacker in Solingen, haven't resumed the production of razors. I belive that Wade and Butcher are still making cuttlery but I reckon it will be difficult to find a brand new British razor.
However, if you want to buy a vintage razor there are plenty to choose from if you are patient enough to find them. Or you could just go to the classifieds here and see what our brothers in shaving have in stock for us...
My two pence!

I have come across New Old stock British razors before, and there are certainly unused examples about. That doesn't answer your question though. There are no British companies producing razors. There are however, one or two individuals who can forge razors.

Thanked: 202Last of the Sheffield Razor makers little mesters died a few years back. In the new collection in Kelham Island is recording of him.
There are still few companies left but none of them makes new razors. Wostenholms, Taylors are still in cutlery or tool making busines are as well as others

A friend of mine approached Taylor's and asked if they would ever consider resuming SR production, but was told they don't have the machinery any more. Add to that the lack of skilled grinders and the sheer lack of will to do it and you have your answer. Yet the demand is there - or else why are Dovo and TI months behind with bulging order books?
I tell you what - it isn't right, it isn't British and it Simply Will Not Do!

Thanked: 6Farid has made some Japanese-style razors, as here http://straightrazorpalace.com/vendo...se-razors.html. The firm is listed under the UK knifemakers' directory as Farid, but their website link doesn't work. Whether he has ever made any "proper" straights I wouldn't know.
