What do u think about this Wade Butcher? Is it worth it?
I was fascinated by this razor which was auctioned on eBay 3 days ago. Is a straight like this too rare to come across again and was the price paid ridiculous or justified? Check this baby out.

I doubt you will ever see the like of them again, but the price is ridiculous: Those are very old razors in rather new scales... think generic 20th-Century Barber's Supply company scales...

+1 on the scales - they scream 20th century and look damned awful.

They aren't even a matched pair of blades. I'm betting someone took two similar blades, replaced the scales to match, put them in a box, and just called them a set.
Those Masonic razors get big money because they are Masonic. They do seem to be a bit more scarce than other models, but they are not that rare. Given that those are rescales, I'd think that would make them far less valuable to a collector as well. IMO, someone got duped by the "set."

I think Benjamin and Dylan have nailed it, an unmatched pair of blades in a poor set of matched scales, the scales would look good on the appropriate blades but to me these blades need the traditional horn scales. If the bidding were set at 4.50$ it would be able to work its way up to it's true value, as is they are waaaaay over priced.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Those scales look familiar to me but I can't place them. Maybe someone seeing this thread will recognize where they might have originally come from ? The masonic blades are probably responsible for the high $ and they are pretty clean. Oddly enough the scales seem appropriate because of the crowns on the wedge end. I mean appropriate because of the masonic etching on the blades.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
