Being a fellow history buff, that would be the find of a lifetime for me. Glad to hear that that razor could still speak for its owner 150 years later.

That's a very informative piece of history. What makes it so interesting, though, is just how that one antique--a straight razor--can tell us about events which seemingly have little, if any, connection with shaving. History monographs have been written using one little piece of historical memorabilia like that.

As for the owner/user of the razor...Personally, I'm quite glad that he was a Yankee--for obvious reasons.

Great story. History is part of the reason I was drawn to straight razors. Waiting patiently for a picture of the razor. Thanks.

No, I don't suppose you would. To you, we're all Yanks. What do you think of that, nun2sharp? You're a Yankee!

Seriously, that is a fantastic story! I'd love to know where your friend found all that wonderful information.

In Australia we just call you Seppo's which we have abbreviated from the rhyming slang term, Septic Tanks = Yanks. Rhyming slang being of ****ney origin (I think) and therefore British, I would suppose that we here in Australia also think you're all Yanks too.
Personally I think the South should have won, for they're charm and gentlemanly conduct alone though...

P.S That was a fantastic read about the straight razor. I have a deep love of history And all that was because, one soldier probably thought the same way, and thought to let future generations know a little about events as well. A straight razor time capsule.

A really good story very interesting. Nothing like a bit of history to bring character to something.

Shame you can't read the name though.

I'm also with Sailor on this one.

It is too sad that in modern world we have everything too much. Modern things aren't made to last but they rather get thrown away and and then we buy new. There will be no much left from our times except trash.

Take care of your unique razor and give it all respect it deserves.

Actually we DID win but because we ARE such gentlemen we let them THINK they did. Besides what would we do if the country if we had it? It's been scientifically proven (by southern scientists no less) that a southerner can freeze to death at 65 degrees so anything further north than Memphis might as well be Siberia.

That was a good story thanks for posting it.

I only know that one of my Gottas belonged to an old gent that uses the same barber as me lol, thats as far as the history goes. Although inspired by this I might ask my barber to ask the old gent if he knows any more about it.

Thanks again, and I hope you're gonna use the razor would be good to know it's living on.
