Thanked: 0Single piece handle - unusual?
I just received this Torrey "Our Beauty" from ebay. It is in exceptionally good shape, which is nice for an ebay gamble, especially since I got it for very little.
The handle is a single piece, with one core wood and another laminated/epoxied on to the outsides. There is only one pin. I'm new to str8's, but have seen quite a few pictures and haven't found anything like this. Is it very common?

Thanked: 13245It is not stock factory, the razor was restored, I have seen 4 sets of these scales come across my bench in the last year or so...
I don't know who the Craftsman is on these...

Thanked: 3795There was an SRP member a couple of years ago who used to make two toned scales similar to, but not exactly like, those scales. I don't remember who it was so I realize that doesn't help a lot.

I have never seen scales like that, but i don't have as much experience as most of the people on this site. I do love the looks of that razor though.

Thanked: 0If you think of who the poster was, or have any ideas on what I could search on, let me know.
The handle fits beautifully with the blade. It is fairly thick at the end, but the wood is really light, so the balance is pretty good. The outer pieces look like rosewood, but whatever the inner piece is, it is very light.

Thanked: 0Yours and cannonfodder's are beautiful and look like a lot more effort was put in. The wood on this one is pretty nice, but the pin isn't. I also wonder how well the center wood will hold up.
Any examples of one piece handles out there?

As I recall Livi does his scales that way with one piece and I know there are some others but it's all custom class stuff not factory.

why not just ask the seller, they may know who made the scales if it wasn't them.
yes, livi makes some of his scales that way and I have some single piece blanks that butch harner sent me.
it looks like a pretty clean job, and I'd say the large washer and pin are intentional, even if you don't like them too much.
