Blade measurement
Hi Guys,
Is the width of a blade measured from "A" to "C", or is it measured from "B" to "C".
Cheers

Just dont go from C to A via Z, because that'll really mess up your reading.

It depends on whether you're buying or selling and the opportunity for negotiation aka haggling

Thanked: 13245Welcome to Razordom where nothing has a simple answer...
In general it is accepted practice to use the a/c measurement but some companies use and used the a/b measurement...
Some people think the measurements vary because of metric to English conversion problems and even old guilde measurement systems...
If you look at and measure enough different makes, it seems to fall somewhere between all of these explanations and rests with each makers decision...
Keep in mind these measurements really have to do with new or NOS razors once they have been honed it isn't accurate any longer...
Oh and that brings up another possibility that the razor was designed to hit the marked size after one honing

I always use A-C... Dovo is just sloppy with their measurements lol.
Using B-C just never makes sense, especially with vintage razors, since the effect of honing would always alter the B-C measurement. Taping the spine is the only thing that would stop that, but I think we can assume most companies that have made razors didn't worry about doing that.Last edited by Philadelph; 08-06-2010 at 02:28 PM.

This reminds me of the issues surrounding caliber and bullet diameter with firearms. The .38 caliber is actually a .357 diameter bullet…some say the measurement is from the barrel, grooves or lands?
Sizing conventions going back so far definitely seem hard to figure.
I have a Dovo Jubilaum 3/8 but measures quite a bit wider.
Interesting thread

Ironic that you mention it. I actually would like a bit more info on that specific razor if you can shed some light on it Lynn?
I've posted pics on another threat titled http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ess-these.html It is the second razor in the pics - 2a,b,c
Bought it for a really good price, but I have NO idea what the specs of it are, what the steel is, or if it is any good. Seems to be a singing razor, but I really am not sure...Last edited by leadingedge; 08-06-2010 at 02:31 PM.
