Thanked: 7Question about a new acquisition
Stopped in a local antique shop and picked up a nice barber's notch for $12. The tang is stamped James Rodgers & Co. Established 1825 or 26 Sheffield England. I was curious if anyone had any info on this company. Its in good shape; no rust or pitting and the edge is still glowing. It could use a rescale, but I kinda like the old ones, they look like horn but are probably bakelite. They also had a Beam razor in almost perfect shape. I don't remember what that was stamped other than Solingen but if anyone has anything on that one also I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of info you are looking for, But here are a few things that may help

If it's a sheffield blade in good shape, you should at least have a decent shaving razor. Other than that, looks like it will take some digging to find out much about the late Mr. Rodgers.

The only thing I can gather from your description is that razors stamped with the country of origin are post-1892 and those without are pre-1892.

Thanked: 7Ok, so it seems to be post 1892. That's more than I knew before while still managing to be somehow not knowing anything. I'm going to give it some polishing and hope it comes out as nice as that other one. They look identical, except his is cleaned and his scales are in better shape. Thanks a lot guys.
