Thanked: 0Pyramid Brand? How to confirm on razor?
Hello,
I baught a Pyramid Brand Razor from an auction, and it came in a blue box labelled "Pyramid Brand, Geneva Cutlery Co."
However, there is nothing on the razor, no markings at all. How do I know if it is a Pyrmaid Brand razor? None the less, it does look like a nice razor, and I'm preparing it for shave ready. Can't wait
Thanks,
Majesus

Any pics? If there are no markings whatsoever on the actual razor then it's hard to say. Quite often razors are paired with mismatched boxes when sold; so the box might say one brand, but the razor will be something completely different.

If the razor is a Geneva Pyramid, it'll say Geneva Cutlery on the front of the tang, and have a pyramid (probably with a number inside it). If not, it's likely something else.

Thanked: 3795If the razor is not marked, then the box is meaningless. A Timex watch in a Rolex box is still a Timex.
How are you "preparing it for shave ready?" Is this your first razor? If so, your biggest problem is not the brand of the razor but rather the sharpness of the razor. What hones do you have?

Thanked: 0Yup I agree, that's why I posted the razor in question and here are my photos:
As for hones: I baught the Norton Waterstones starter Kit and I made myself a nice leather strop based on the documents in the Wiki. (Thanks guys.)
I will be making a Balsa strop soon and I have some diamond paste on order. The CrOx grit is not easy to find here in Vancouver, BC. But I'll try the diamond paste first and get the CrOx at a later time via the net.
I will be going to Home Depot sometime early next week to get wet sandpaper to lapp my hones.
Cheers,

Thanked: 0Yeah, there is no marking on the razor, so like you guys said... It could be anything. I figured I'd make a post to ask, just in case there is something unique about the Pyramid razors that can be used to ID them when they have no stamping. All well, I only paid $10 for it, it's my learning razor anyhow. The next razor I purhase, I will make sure it has the manufacturer stamped on the tang.
At least I got some CrOx from my post. Thanks Wdwrx, I sent you a PM with my contact information.
Cheers,
Majesus

Pyramids
I've sold 4 or 5 Pyramids this year, and they all had bottom jimps, and the original flat black or blonde scales were all pinned without washers. This one is typical
That being said, your razor, whatever it may be, and there's no way to tell, has "the look" of a decent razor. Don't ask to elaborate, I probably couldn't, but, to me it looks right. Certainly a candidate for honing.
As for your relationship with your seller.... that's tough. I don't know what you paid, but it seems like you didn't get what you paid for. To me, it seems worth an e-mail. Pyramids are very nice razors and a known quantity. Yours might be.Don't get hung up on hanging hairs.
