    Default 3/4 hollow sounds like...

So I picked up a 3/4 hollow 5/8 Providence Cutlery Co razor this after noon in immaculate condition. I polished him up although it really didn't need it and looked at the edge under a 60x microscope. BINGO! I noticed that it had been either honed once before or had only been on a barber hone a couple times and had a nice secondary bevel. I have reason to believe that some schmuck had bought this razor 85 years ago and used it until it was time to hit the hones but didn't really know what he was doing and gave up before establishing a bevel and deemed it a sorry razor.

But I digress. After getting it properly honed up, I headed out to shave. Almost immediately, I noticed that it sounded different than either my wedges or my hollows. I think that 3/4 hollows have a slightly different sound....it's the sound of a full hollow right before you know it needs a honing. It was a GREAT shave though

Anybody else notice that a 3/4 hollow has the audible sound of a full hollow that needs to be honed?

Sorry, no pics today...think the card reader on my computer is shot

I don't know how a full hollow that needs honing sounds, but I find that going up the grind chart yields less and duller noise at each stage. I assume this is because there is less initial flex and therefore less vibration of the blade which is also damped more quickly.

Sounds like a nice find, by the way. Congrats on that.

The shape will change the sound....
Just the same as some wine glasses 'sing'
    and some clank.
