Thread: Got me a new Razor

New to me anyway Wade & Butcher. Saw it yesterday on eBay so watched it till this evening. Placed a bid and won. Now the wait for the shipping then clean it up, get it honed, then see what it can do.

Looks like you made a good snag... I'm still quite new at this but the pictures seem to show a pretty good blade though the scales might be iffy. Either way you can't beat the price, just make sure you post some pics of your own after you get it and clean it up nice.

Good catch at a great price...and hey, if it isn't to your liking, you can send it back and tell him that it says 'England' and was made after 1892 and not during the mid-'1800's like he claimed

I caught the date. Even if it does not clean up to like new I still think from what I see it should be a good razor.

You may not get rid of all of the pitting, but on one of those blades who cares! They take a great edge and shave like a dream, great snag at a great price!

I'm going to guess, based on the blade shape and grind, stamp, and scales, that that is one of the "You Lather Well I'll Shave Well" blades except the frosting has worn off. They are FANTASTIC shavers.

That's a very nice looking W&B wedge blade. If I was you, I'd leave the blade as is and just get it honed up. I think the original patina looks really good on some of the vintage blades. I've got a Wolstenholm in similar condition and I umm'd and arrhh'd for a while about whether I'd polish up the blade or not and I'm glad I didn't. I've got some nice polished antique blades so it's good to have some contrast.
