Default New DE For My Wife

I figured that this would be the best place to ask about DE's for my wife.
My wife said that she used to get a much better shave years ago when she lived at home and used her father's DE razor. She says that the cartridge razors just don't cut it. (pun intended )
I've read about the older Gillette DE's that are popular, but what I am wondering is, are there any new DE's that you would recommend for her?
I would like to order one for her today when I order a new straight for myself.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
    Bob

I really like the Edwin Jagger DE89L - so does my wife.

Edwin Jagger Double Edge Safety Razor, Lined, Chrome, DE89L

Ad if you really love her , you will get the Edwin Jagger Chatsworth.
Edwin Jagger Chatsworth Range, Double Edge Safety Razor, Lined Chrome Handle

This is the lined one, but you can get it in black or blond cheaper.

I just picked up a 2nd Schick Krona, which are great DEs, also have a couple of WW2 plastic DEs one is a Simplex and the other I don't remember the name of but I have not paid more than 5 bucks for a nice vintage DE at the local antique stores and just an hour soak in scrubbing bubbles and they clean up nicely if you want to go that route as well.

Where are you purchasing your straight from? That may determine what you would like to look at. The current ones I am most familiar hearing about are the Merkur and Jagers. Personally I like my Vintage Slim adjustable. If you want to go with a vintage DE check around at the local antique stores or flea markets, you can usually pick them up for less than $10. As Troggie mentioned a good spray down and soak with scrubbing bubbles and a toothbrush will clean and disinfect them well. The most important thing I would say it to get her one with a longer handle. They are much easier to maneuver.

Default New DE For My Wife

Thanks for all of your advice, I appreciate it.
I bought the straight from SRD and talked to Don on the phone about a DE for my wife. He gave me good advice about some non-agressive razors and blades to choose from. I ended up getting her a Merkur Long Handled Classic Safety Razor 23C and some Derby Extra Double Edge Blades.
And for me, a Dovo Red Bismark straight.

Good choices for your wife. I really like the Derby blades. Good luck to both of you with your new shavers
