    Default COWBOY brand?

Cowboy straight razor, Solingen. Anyone ever heard of this brand? Its a stainless Solingen blade. I've never heard of the maker and furthermore don't associate cowboy with quality! Certainly not in the UK anyway. What do you guys think? Vintage make NOS, or modern day razor?

Razor, Rasiermesser made in Solingen, Cowboy, 7/8" - eBay (item 330459103759 end time Aug-15-10 12:05:51 PDT)

Looks like one of those generic Solingen Razors probably made for the tourist trade and aimed at Americans or American Western Buffs.

I'm always a bit leery when I see the makers mark laser etched in the tang instead of deeply stamped into the metal. Doesn't make it bad, just tells me that it's probably modern and maybe these are fairly generic blanks and they can etch on whatever name(s) they want depending on who they want to market them to.

That's what makes me skeptical, the fact that it is etched. I therefore wonder if it is vintage or a modern making, or a regrind of an old blank. I then wonder who would have made it in any event.

The tang is frosted, not stamped, the listing was bad, never heard of it, run like hell! For that kind of money get a known quality item and play it safe, let someone else take the chance.

BTW IIRC Hen & Rooster was a good brand at one time, then Smoky Mt Knifeworks bought them and moved the factory from Germany to Pakistan.

I think the seller is reputable though, as I bought a Weyersberg (Corneta) from him a few weeks ago. Was a fine razor, though it had been rescaled.

Can you also vouch for this razor as being a quality item that you would bid on to win?

As I've never heard of the brand, no I can not vouch for it having any better quality than a Gold Dollar, which I would never bid on to win.

Guys, does this not seem virtually IDENTICAL to last weeks COWBOY other than the spinework? Scales and all? The grind and the frosting, rather than a stamp?

STRAIGHT RAZOR STAINLESS STEEL NOS NICE SPINE WORK MINT on eBay (end time 22-Aug-10 20:09:26 BST)

Just a warning in case anyone was bidding, I know Im not going to this time!
