Hone wear is the amount of times the razor has been honed. Essentially, hone wear only really effect the razor in it's resale value. You can have a razor with quite a bit of hone wear that still shaves fine.

There are certain instances where hone wear is bad. If it damages the geometry of the edge for example, then you may want to pass on the razor. Uneven hone wear may result in the toe or heel being shorter than the other side, or even worse, hone wear will create a frown in the razor.

When you're shopping at antique stores, hone wear is a bargaining chip in your favor. If a razor has good geometry and will be a great shaver, you may be able to have the price reduced because of the amount of hone wear that the razor has.
