    Question Boker 7/8 "Celebrated"

In seeing the other thread referring to "The Celebrated" razors, I figured I would start a new thread as my curiosity is peaked about the Boker 7/8 "Celebrated" razor available at Shavingshop.com. I've recently fallen in love with my little Boker Edelweiss. The craftsmanship, balance, quality and shave-ability are all top notch, so I feel that I can have confidence buying another Boker.

However, at a price approaching $300, the "Celebrated" Boker has some stiff competition. Can anyone who owns this razor compare it with some of the other options at that price point?

I have had this razor for aprox. 1 year. It took a while for me to get comfortable with such a large blade as I got it about a month into my straight shaving. It went in for honing March 1st and has been a pleasure to use since then. It is close to needing a touch-up right now. The bevel is even on both sides and the horn scales are hefty and atractive. There are spacers between the blade and scales that leave lots of room to clean the pivot. There is no gold on this razor to fret about when polishing and the laser ected trade mark on the tang and blade are not affected by metal polish(the tang markings on the reverse side are stamped as normal). The decoration on the spine is ever so slighty off center from front to back, but to be honest I would not have noticed if it had not been mentioned in another post. The pins remain tight with even presure all the way around.
The only razor I have to compare is a Filarmonica 14 that I've only had a short time. The blades appear to be of equal quality but I could not tell you how long the edge on the Filly will last between honings. In the scale department the Boker wins hands down. Black horn looks cool now and probably will in 100 years. The Filly's scales are well... bluish and the last color I would choose for such a beautiful blade. I have no issue with the quality or shape of the scales, but did I mention... they look hidious.
In closing, I have been very pleased with this razor. You do have lots of choices. If you like the looks of this one, go for it.

Thanks for the info! Great comparison. I actually like my 5/8 Boker better than my 5/8 Filly and that is saying a lot. Like you said, the thing I notice about my little Edelweiss is how long it holds an edge. I have been shaving with it for well over 10 shaves and I see no sign of the edge needing a touchup.

"The Celebrated" is very, very expensive given the other quality razors in that price range. However, given the quality of the Edelweiss, I may have to take a closer look at its big brother.
