    Default Blue Wonder from Germany

I picked up a Blue Wonder straight, and its stamped Finest Silver Steel forged and ground in Solingen Germany on the tang, the question is: Is this type of metal a bear to set the bevel on. I have been honing and honing on 1k nani for ever. I just did my Kama in no time, but this Blue Wonder just seems like iam going up against CARBIDE.Anyone else have this problem?? thanks

I don't know what that steel actually is, but I've done German and English silver steel and found them about the same as any other razor to hone. I don't know what those steels actually are either.

I've never found Silversteel razors a problem. It may just be the tempering or lack of it.

When you hit a brick wall on a razor..

    1. step away and relax
    2. come back to it, but change something up..

Either add a piece of tape or subtract one,
Change the stroke yer doing, go from an x to a circle, or reverse that..
Try changing stones, go up one, down one, or to a different brand of one...
Try doing 10 laps on something like a DMT 325
    Add soap, subtract soap
    Try stropping the razor 25/50
Try a slurry on the same stone

    BUT try changing something up...

There was a very nice looking blue wonder with worked back that had (yes, I know, shocking) blue scales on ebay recently. I asked the vendor what the DNA of the razor was and he said it was a NOS friodur blank that was recently ground and the blue wonder logo was used (like Wacker used to use Bartmann logo). I don't know if that's the one you have, but if it is, you might treat it like you'd treat one of the inox friodurs, which I think can be tricky to hone (although my old school 70 1/2 friodur is easy to hone).

I've got some 35 razors now, and there are a handful that I just can't get just right for whatever reason, whereas the other 30 hone up perfectly for me. So I feel your aggravation. I've even got a very nice condition goldedge and it shaves fine but I just can't it as sharp as all my other solingens.

    Default Blue Wonder Extra honing

I have a Blue Wonder from Germany and it seemed to take a lot of time to hone it for me as well. At first I wondered if it would be a good shaver because it would pull and not cut cleanly. Then I took it back to the stones rather aggressively - and it seemed to improve tremendously.

    Happy Shaving
