Gold Wash
I'm not fond of it at all, but have one coming that has alot. Are there techniques for keeping it from wiping away w/ the first shave? Has anyone tried waxing it? Any other techniques?
I wish it were alot less popular. (in advance: why did you get it? - a nice worked spine for a few bucks more)

It's not going to wipe away just from cleaning the razor after use, it just won't stand up to any abrasive or polishing. It can stay beautiful for a long time if care is used.Wipe with a soft towel or bath tissue, and you're fine.

I'm another person who doesn't care for gold wash. If it were truly permanent, it might be a little different, but it starts wearing off and just makes the razor look less appealing.

The durability , or lack thereof, varies depending on the razor and on the care it is given with use. If you were to take something like Renaissance Wax and coat it every so often that might add to the longevity. I don't care one way of the other about the stuff. I think if it is naturally worn it doesn't detract from the appearance of the razor. YMMV.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

It's sure worth a try
The wax. Thank you, Gentlemen. I appreciate it.

I would be very worried about coating a blade myself, because I'd be scared I'd mess it up and then not be able to get it off (esp with ren wax). But I would definitely want to do it to preserve the gold wash. It will come off sooner or later just from regular care.
I have thus far avoided the problem by not having any razors with gold wash in my rotation...
