    Default What do I have?

Hello. I've been shaving with these three razors for quite some time. I keep them all ready to go and rotate them each day. I've included pictures because I'm interested to know what year(s) they were each made.

I received the Filarmonica with a broken black handle...the imitation tortoise handle was added by me so I could use it. The others are marked Ditzer and Antelope.

I tried to include pictures of feature I thought would be relevant in dating them. Please let me know if more information is required.

I tried googling, but got a lot of ebay and unrelated results, so I figured it would be more effective to simply ask someone more schooled in the history of antique razors.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't know what it is you have there but I really like the blade on that Antelope.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

You have some very nice razors there. Have to agree with Jimmy on that Antelope. Sorry I can't be of more help. And… welcome.

+1, the blade shape on that Antelope looks really great. How does she shave?

Welcome to SRP! I'm sure someone with a bit more knowledge on dating your razors will contribute soon. The Filarmonica is a current favorite by many straight shavers. As you probably know it give a nice smooth shave once honed properly. The other two I am unfamiliar with but I have a Boker and an Electric with a style similar to the toe on your Antelope.

Hope you enjoy your visits to SRP and find some useful info to advance your straight razor experience.

Funny, I find that the Antelope gives the least desireable shave. I mean, they all shave acceptably or else I wouldn't use them, but it just gives a sense of missing something. Never tried them on my lip or chin...I have a goatee, so I only need to shave my cheeks and underchin area (makes things a lot simpler, lol).

The Antelope is the largest of the three by far, the blade is wider and longer than the other two (so it may be that its size just doesn't mesh with my technique).

The Filarmonica is currently my favorite for feel, with the Ditzer running a close second.

Still, I happily use them all and find a positive psychological component to straight-razor shaving. Just a darn good way to start the day...
