That's a sweet razor, most unusual working in the tang. I'd learn the art and have the razor honed and cleaned by a pro in the classifieds.

We don't do valuations, but that is worth between 0 and a 100,000 dollars.

It's probably around 1940's, made from carbon steel, with a celluloid handle. It is probably quite collectable due to the unusual checkered markings and is in quite good condition by the looks of it. Above all it will make an excellent shaver, like all vintage Solingen blades.

Great heirloom, I envy you very much.

Nice razor! It is a quality Solingen piece, with that fancy hammered tang, checkerboard bolsters, and the silver inlay in the celluloid scales. +1 on professional restoration and honing.

Ask Lynn, Max, Glen, any of the recommended in the Classifieds. I'd guess maybe honing plus a light clean..40-50 dollars? More than worth it.

Does look like a pretty nice quality razor but I would want to see the entire blade. Your pic only shows the shank.

Ooh, ouch. Those cracks mean it's not one you'll ever get to shave with... must have been dropped against something.

It's still a really neat razor; if you have it cleaned up it'll be a fantastic piece to display or keep in your desk drawer as a neat memento of your grandfather.

It's not in good shape but will probably be retrievable. Send it out, as others have suggested. Great heirloom.

Edit. Didn't notice those cracks. What BKratchmer said. Nice heirloom, anyway.
