Thanked: 0Ever heard of this razor?
I posted this in one of the other forums, but thought I'd run it past you guys too, for those that aren't on the other.
I went to deceptively large antique mall. I'm hoping to go back soon to finish looking, it was huge. In one case I found several straights, all looked in pretty good condition, though maybe with heavy hone marks. All $10 or less. Then there was one that was bit more, and in very good condition.
It was a Crogh Cutlery Co. Four Leaf Clover Special Quality. I can't find any information online about this company or razor, anyone out there know of it?
It has some hone wear, but little surface tarnish and just a bit of surface rust. It was in very good condition really. The blade was stamped only with the company name, no where did it say "Solingen" or "Made in Germany" or anywhere else for that matter. The scales seemed very strong, high quality. I'm not sure of the material, I'm assuming plastic of some sort, but were ivory colored, and had an beautiful design molded. I'm thinking of purchasing this today and honing it up. I'm just not sure if it's worth the price. Have any of you heard of this razor, what do you think?
I wish I could have gotten pictures, it was gorgeous looking at the least.
It was obvious to me the woman I spoke with hand no understanding of razors or their value, or what makes them valuable. She acted as if the razors themselves were worthless, but the boxes...now THAT'S where the real value is! The razors are ok, I guess but man, look at the box it's in! Lol. It actually ended up being pretty obnoxious.

Haven't heard of if but I'd like to comment on the fact that this lady insisted on the nice boxes.
I've had the same thing in France, where the expected to be paid 50 USD for a wooden box with two eskilstuna's in it, only the eskilstuna's were literally half rusted away.
I've also had the case of a worn out razor (you know, black plastic handles, without any redeeming qualities) that also went at +/- 50 USD because there was some stamp that indicated it was produced/used during the 2nd world war.
Different people, different priorities

Thanked: 0Yeah, I suppose. I'm sure for collectors it makes a bigger deal. I just found it funny/irritating that she pushed it non-stop after telling her several times I planned to use it. Although, I must admit, it is kind of cool and the boxes were in REALLY good shape, a couple almost looked new.

Tell her she can keep the box or throw it away
She may think your crazy and refuse to sell, but its less offensive then calling her stupid
