Default Looking at the edge under a microscope

I recently purchased a cheapo microscope from Radio Shack as I saw on other threads that people had used these to look at the edge when they began restoring razors or honing (im starting to do both). I spent all afternoon today looking at my razor...... but i saw nothing, no matter how i turned the focus nob I didnt see anything come into focus.

Any ideas how to fix my problem here?

Does the microscope have a light on it?

Can you see other things under the microscope?

    Cool

The pocket microscopes have two magnifications. 1 is about 60x? and the other is perhaps 200x. When at the high magnification, it is very difficult to focus.

Try using the lower setting first.

redsta96 had me check out the pre-honed edge on my EE Mos with his pocket microscope. I couldn't see a thing. You have to get it just right.

These small pocket microscopes are made for very gross examination and as has been said are difficult to focus. You have to play with them to get it just right.

It can be had a buck or two cheaper than the RS scope, and is much more effective. Much better lighting, much easier to focus, better field of vision, and more useful magnification level. And it's much handier and less hassle than larger more expensive scopes, while providing all the visibility I need to figure things out.

I use a jewelers loupe with the LED light. They can be obtained cheaply on the Bay.

I also have an LED illuminated scope and they are much better than the RS ones with a plain bulb.

If you know you have illumination, but just can't focus, try pointing the scope in the center of the blade, then rocking the razor until the bade comes into focus. When you can see the grain of the metal, slide the razor up/down to the bevel. After a while you get better at this.
