Razors in stories
My wife is reading a book from the library called "The Broken Window" by Jeffery Deaver. In it a character says he has 89 razors and that his pride and joy is a long bladed stag horn scaled razor by krusius bros. I looked up the list on wiki but it isn't there. I wonder if anyone has heard of them.It was said to be from the 1800's.Just curious. The books she reads are usually about gory murders (and she's such a gentle wee thing) oh!, she's just informed me that he "wants to storm up to someone and slice the pale flesh thin as tomato skin with one of my 89 straight razors" i think the character's name is L Abrams (the wife told me to say that, honestly )

Looked up Jerry Deaver and I must say that he is an excellent writter. Let's be clear about one thing his business is to tell tales and sell novels. He is not in the business to educate the public on the issue of straight razors and has no insentive to get the facts right. Its most likely that Mr Deaver write this book to entertain rather after exhaustive research into straight razors. Its most likely that the brand of razor that Mr Deaver is talking about is completly fictional and after all if he maligned a real razor company his lawyer would have some court time to attend. Imagine what troubble he would be in if he maligned the Double Duck or the Dovo razors, a comapny would be after his legal behind. At first blush I would say that this is a tale that is not to be taken seriously by a straight razor user but as simply entertainment.

I've had a couple KB razors. They were very nice shavers. I would think, however, that unless the author had a personal connection with KB's, the character is probably more proud of the scales than the razor.

I don't think he maligned any razor as it is only a fictional story and if for instance a character was using a Ford to run someone over he obviously isn't saying that Fords keep killing people. He just sounded like someone who knew a bit more than the average person since most people call them "cut throat razors" and not straight razors. My father used to call them open razors.the author would have a good reason to call it a cut throat razor in a murder story.if I was taking it seriously,I'd be hiding behind the sofa LOL.
I just Googled Krusius bros and it led me to a post on this forum.Last edited by charlie762; 10-01-2010 at 04:19 PM. Reason: addition after googling

Don't know lick about the razor, but I'm at chapter 8 on it now.
I realize your question wasn't a recommendation, but figured what the heck. A story that has a character with RAD, why not.Last edited by dirtychrome; 10-03-2010 at 05:07 PM. Reason: Spelling

Dirtychrome,
Since you're at chapter 8 this is a spoiler but if it's ok to say, it's in chapter13,page 99.Seems they are good razors in reality then.
