Thanked: 81DD 5/8 Nirvana
I am usually a 7/8+ razor user. This week I used my DD 5/8 Wonderedge for the first time in several months. I really like the nimble 5/8. It felt like a scalpel compared to the big cleavers I normally used. The result was a very nice shave. My only complaint is that this razor is the only unmuted square point, almost a spike, that I own. I always bite myself at least once with it per shave. Other than this, the small size and flexible edge really gives great results. I can see why this style became so popular.

Thanked: 3795I've got a few WonderEdges and they are all spike, not square, points. I think they all came that way. If you really don't like it, you could always mute it yourself on the side of a hone.

It's always been my way of thinking that I'd prefer to keep my razors the way they are and use them like that. If they don't suit me, I'd rather get another than change it. But... it is your razor and you should certainly feel free to do what you want with it.

Thanked: 25Mine has a round point. Agreed on the awesome factor.
Edit: mine is factory made round point, and it seems closer to a 6/8. Will have to break it out of storage and take a picture and measurement again.Last edited by jeffus; 10-12-2010 at 01:56 PM. Reason: Clarification

I always round off my spikes. While I do respect the idea that classic old razors should be preserved in their original state, i also think it "honors" the old razor to use it well and frequently, and I have an ugly enough face as it is, I don't want more scars! So I gently round off the spike just enough so that it does not "grab" and rip.
Still, Dylan's feeling on that is also one worth respecting. An older razor is an artifact, and pointer to a lost past, and those who want to keep them in their original configuration have a good argument and a fine sensibility.
And most are more skilled straight-shavers than I am!
