Thanked: 0terminology of sizes and types
New to this, I just received a George Wostenholm & Son Original and True razor and am at a loss as to where to go from here.
I have read a few posts but do not understand about the sizes (5/8) and so forth.
The history of the razor I received would also be of interest.
This site seems to be the finest for information and support!

Thanked: 1195To start, 4/8 or 5/8 or 6/8 etc refers to the width of the blade; that is the distance from the spine to the edge (in fractions of inches).
If you had any questions specific to your individual razor it would probably be best to post a picture as opposed to just describing a feature. You may also find some info in the wiki, such as razor nomenclature and brief manufacturer histories.

Thanked: 0Thank you, the pictures will be posted as soon as I can.
Sizing of the blade width might be a challenge for me since my work requires metric units, but thats a great place to start.
Will be reading alot!
Great to be part of this, PaulW

It makes sense to me that the most popular size of razors was always 5/8 if it wasn't wouldn't the blades be called 1/2 5/8 3/4 etc?
