Weee, new plaything!
Today home from work I discovered I had a new packet waiting for me - it was an Issard 669 that I got off of ebay for a bag of peanuts. I am thrilled, it looks even better than it did in the seller's photos.
I'm running for my autosol and a rag - time to battle some old crud

Humm,
not sure if I should be thrilled or bored atm, but I'm kinda leaning towards bored. 30 minutes with autosol, and all the "pitting" came off, the small possible crack near the heel came right off as well. I believe I am back down to factory finish on most parts of the blade, and even the honewear looks straight and even.
I even had time to put some light shine back into the scales. They still have some battle scars and could do with some more serious touchup, but it is a matter of cosmetics. They are solid, straight and firm.
One single waterstain on each side of the blade remain, far away from the edge. That appears to be it, apart from the work on finishing the scales. It appears it just needs a little more honewear and it should be good to take for a drive around the stubby neighborhood of my chin.
I guess I should feel more thrilled, but somehow it doesn't quite feel like I got enough work out of this one

Well, I managed to have some fun with it after all, I honed it up and took a test shave. Its my first frameback - well, I got a wostenholm brass blade laying around but not finished so first shave with one anyways - and remembering holli4pirating's advice that they can smart a little I went slow. Wife said I passed the BBS and no cuts, so guess my shaving contains less of the erratic fencing movements than before :P
It's also the fastest I've honed a knife, usually I take my time, doing sessions on one stone only, often working on several at a time, putting it all away after and returning next day. Can take me a week to hone a knife. But I decided I wanted to try it out today, since it basically arrived in need of just a hone.
